Guys and Dolls

The Southeastern Summer Theatre Institute opened its second show of the summer. Kathy McGill designed the costumes. A fun project during this show was a technical student from “A Chorus Line” who designed the “Bushel and a Peck” chicken costumes. I enjoyed creating her design and seeing how excited she was to see it on stage when she came to see the show. SSTI Producer and Founder Ben Wolfe directed Guys and Dolls. It was a great way to end the summer with SSTI, seeing the balance between managerial and creative leadership.

A chorus line

The Southeastern Summer Theater Institute opened the first show of the summer, “A Chorus Line.” The main costume build for this show was for the finale, “One.” The line of 16 performers had 40 seconds to change from their 1st looks to the final looks, so the costumes were designed and constructed with this change in mind. It was fulfilling to bring the costume designer Kathy McGill’s vision to life.

Big Sky, Montana

Towards the end of May I visited Big Sky Montana for a wedding. I stayed with the family of the bride and actively helped to prepare for the wedding in the days leading up to the event and morning of the event. During my time at the wedding I got the chance to reflect on how simillar roles of wedding planning and execution are to jobs within the entertainment industry. It was facinating to make the connection and see how my skills and knowledge can adapt across industries and events.

Project 21

Project 21 is a student-run collaboration project between students of the Ann Lacy School and the Wanda Bass School. This year’s collaboration was called “Renewal” and comprised 10 student composers and choreographers pairings. Each choreographer then set pieces on dancers to the composer’s pieces. I worked as the Assistant Student Liason on this project and helped coordinate the logistics of the collaboration. Similar to the light board position I held earlier in the semester, it was eye-opening, and my favorite part of the process was aiding my peers in making their vision come to life.

OCUNYC

OCUNYC is an annual intensive hosted by the alumni community living and working in New York City. The week I spent in the city was impactful and will help to guide my decision to live in “The City That Never Sleeps.” I learned from professionals in the industry and got the opportunity to network for my future career. The most impactful connection I made is with Tiffany Robinson, a Broadway stage manager for MJ The Musical. Tiffany gave me a backstage tour of the Neil Simon Theater. I met performers and crew and got a small glimpse into what life on Broadway looks like!

Move!

This spring, Move! Dance for the World of Entertainment was the Star Dance Company's main stage production! I worked on the crew as a light board operator. In this position, I learned all about lighting, and programming the board. I was given the opportunity to become very familiar with the DOT 2 lightboard. In this position, I worked closely with the Stage Manager, Assistant Stage Manager, Artistic Director, Technical Director, and fellow light board operators. The creative processes that I was able to observe and help create were stellar!

CoLLEgiate Growth Academy

Collegiate growth academy was a weekend full of learning, collaboration, and fun. This conference hosted by Alpha Chi Omega headquarters gave me the opportunity to meet sisters from across the country and collaborate on how to run a successful recruitment process. It was eye opening in many ways, but the biggest take away was how no matter geographical location or size of chapter we all faced the same issues. It was a true opportunity to collaborate and breakdown challenges with no separation or barriers. As the Vice President of Recruitment I am
